Our pasture has been an ongoing over five year project. I don’t know how the pioneers did it. This is back breaking work, and we are (ahem) not as young as we think we are. The short story is we have gone from thick forest with such tangled undergrowth that it was difficult to walk, to real pasture to feed our horses. Last year we scrapped together enough money to hire a local excavating company (McCullough Excavationing) to remove the many stumps and level the land. They also graded the slope and filled in holes. Well worth the money! We planted last year and now we have grass. It still needs years of work; needs lots of lime and compost, but so good to see the results.
